[Notice] GlobalSign Code Signing Certificate Validity Period Change
Dear Customer,
Hello, and thank you very much for your continued trust in and support for Racent.
We hereby notify you that an industry-wide change to the validity period of code signing certificates will take effect on March 1, 2026. This change was proposed by the CA/B Forum, the standard-setting body for the certificate industry. GlobalSign has now officially announced that it will adjust the validity period of code signing certificates starting from December 27, 2025.
What changes are taking place?
Starting March 1, 2026, the maximum validity period for code signing certificates will be shortened from 39 months to 460 days. Starting December 27, 2025, GlobalSign will cease issuing 2-year and 3-year code signing certificates, and all newly issued code signing certificates will have a maximum validity period of 460 days.
Why is this change being made?
In accordance with CA/B Forum guidelines, GlobalSign is implementing this change to shorten certificate validity periods and thereby improve security. This measure minimizes the window of exposure to potential vulnerabilities arising from expired or compromised certificates. The benefits of this change include: Enhanced security: Shorter validity periods enable more timely certificate renewal and revocation, minimizing potential risks to software and end users. Streamlined compliance processes: Shorter cycles ensure certificates meet the latest security standards, keeping software aligned with industry best practices. More frequent updates help you stay ahead of compliance requirements and reduce the risk of non-compliance.
How does this affect you?
New certificates: GlobalSign will continue to issue 1-year code signing certificates, but starting February 24, 2026, all newly issued GlobalSign code signing certificates will be subject to a maximum validity period of 460 days. Existing certificates: Code signing certificates currently issued with 2-year or 3-year validity periods will remain valid until their expiration date. Under the latest CA/B Forum guidelines, any renewal or reissue operation performed after February 24, 2026 will require these certificates to comply with the new maximum 460-day validity standard. Reissues: Code signing certificates with 2-year or 3-year validity periods ordered on or before December 26, 2025 may be reissued before February 24, 2026 to utilize their remaining validity period. After February 24, 2026, all reissue or renewal operations must adhere to the new CA/B Forum guidelines.
What action do you need to take?
To avoid potential impacts from the validity period adjustment, we recommend that if you have procurement plans, you plan ahead and place orders for multi-year GlobalSign code signing certificates before December 26, 2025. This will allow you to maximize certificate validity before the new policy takes effect, and safeguard your business continuity and system security.
