Can I apply for a certificate with a public IP address?

You can apply for an SSL certificate with a public IP address. However, certificates from most brands require specific ports to be open for validation before issuance:

  1. Certificates from brands such as sslTrus, Sectigo, DigiCert, GlobalSign, and GeoTrust require ports 80/443 to be open for file-based validation.
  2. For certificates from the CFCA brand, there is no port restriction for file-based validation.
